Dubbed as Kyoto’s number one attraction, Fushimi Inari Taisha has to be a part of your must visit places in Japan. It is located just right across the JR Inari Station. Entry is free of charge to this beautiful place and it’s open 24 hours. Fushimi Inari Taisha was built for Inari, the Shinto god of rice and is also known to be a patron of business.
One thing I have noticed around the shrine were these fox statues that come in pairs, male and female, called Kitsune. They are said to be messengers of Inari. The keys that they hold in their mouths are for rice granaries.
The shrine has a lot of Torii gates or known as the red gates which were donated by individuals and companies. The names of the donors were curved in the gates. The grounds are said to have 10,000 Torii gates which are well-preserved.
There also shrines inside wherein visitors could pray for bountiful harvests, success in business and your wishes and dreams to come true. One of the reasons also why I think tourists love to come here is because of its appeal. It’s definitely a photographer’s haven.
I have decided to take some photos for instagram while waiting for the sunset.
I was lucky to get a beautiful shot of the amazing color that the sunset gives with the Romon Gate’s silhouette.
Best time to visit the place is in the morning as the place becomes so eerie at night.
Definitely one of the best sights in Kyoto, Japan.
